Background: Starlink raised US Residential and Roam prices in May 2026

Starlink raised most US Residential and Roam prices by $5 to $10 a month in May 2026. Since the free month is one month of your plan, it is now worth more.

Background. This event was more than 90 days old when we wrote this post. Prices, plan names or rules may have changed since; newer posts on the news page say so where we know.

Before and after prices from May 2026: Residential 100 Mbps 50 to 55 dollars, 200 Mbps 80 to 85, Max 120 to 130, Roam 100GB 50 to 55, Roam Unlimited 165 to 175.

The short answer

What changed?
Residential 100 Mbps went from $50 to $55 a month, Residential 200 Mbps from $80 to $85, Residential Max from $120 to $130, Roam 100GB from $50 to $55 and Roam Unlimited from $165 to $175, as reported by Drive Tesla Canada, RV Mobile Internet and Advanced Television. A new Roam 300GB plan came in at $80.
When?
Announced 2026-05-16 (press reports of Starlink's customer notice). New prices applied to new customers right away; existing customers from their first bill on or after 2026-06-18, per RV Mobile Internet. Background: more than 90 days old.
Who is affected?
New and existing US Residential and Roam customers. Roam 300GB was new, so it had no old price.
What should you do now?
Check the monthly price on the starlink.com checkout for the plan you pick. That figure, not an old blog post, is what one free month is worth to you.
What stays the same?
Starlink's Referral Program Terms, as we read them on 2026-10-05, still give a new customer one free month on the eligible plan they pick, credited to the second monthly bill. You still pay month one, still need to order the kit and plan on starlink.com through a current customer's link, and still need two full billing cycles on a high-speed plan (Standby doesn't count). The plan list in the terms covers all of the repriced plans.

The new prices, as reported

Three outlets reported the same US figures within days of each other. Residential 100 Mbps: $50 to $55. Residential 200 Mbps: $80 to $85. Residential Max: $120 to $130. Roam 100GB: $50 to $55. Roam Unlimited: $165 to $175. Roam 300GB was introduced at $80. Standby Mode also doubled, which we cover in its own post.

Starlink's message to customers, as quoted by RV Mobile Internet, said the change "supports ongoing improvements and investment in affordable, high-performance products and services as global operating costs continue to rise."

What it means for the free month

The free month is one month of service on the eligible plan you choose, credited to your second bill. It is not a fixed dollar amount. So when the plan price went up, the free month became worth more by the same amount.

What did not change is the timing. You still pay month one, and the credit still lands on bill two (see When the free month shows up). Our plans page carries the current prices from our data file, which match the figures above as of 2026-10-05.

If you ordered just before the change

Someone who ordered before 2026-05-16 would have paid month one at the old price, then seen the new price from a bill on or after 2026-06-18. Their free month would be one month of the plan, applied to bill two. If your bill two looks wrong, our troubleshooter walks through the checks.

What we don’t know yet

  • Whether the free-month credit on a bill straddling the price change was valued at the old or new price. Starlink's referral terms say one month of service on the plan and do not address this.
  • We did not see Starlink's customer email ourselves; the figures come from three press reports that agree with each other.
