The Starlink free month: check you qualify, then get it right

Short answer

If you’ve never had Starlink and you order on starlink.com through a current customer’s referral link, you get one free month of service on the eligible plan you pick. You pay month 1. The credit comes off your second bill.

  • No code to type. The free month comes with the link itself.
  • Bill 1 is full price. That’s normal, not a mistake.
  • Store kits and returning customers don’t qualify. The checker tells you before you order.

Will you get the free month?

Where will you use Starlink?

This means the service address you’d put on the order. We don’t need it, only which side of the border it’s on.

Have you ever had a Starlink subscription?

Any plan, any address, even years ago or for a few weeks. Being on someone else’s account as a user doesn’t count as your own subscription.

How will you get the kit?

The free month only attaches to a kit and plan bought on starlink.com.

Which kind of plan do you want?

Not sure yet? Pick “Not sure”. You’ll see the eligible plans at checkout.

Will you keep a full-speed plan for at least two months?

That means no cancelling and no switching to Standby Mode before bill 2.

Runs on this page. Nothing you pick is saved or sent anywhere, and we never ask for your address.

What happens on each bill

Starlink bills you on the same day each month, starting from your first charge. Here’s where the free month falls.

  1. Month 1

    Bill 1

Your Payment Due Date You pay in full

The first month is normal price. Activating is part of how Starlink confirms the referral.

  2. Days 1–30

    Return window

Ends 30 days after bill 1 Refund if you send it back

Not a free trial. A full refund if the kit goes back undamaged in time.

  3. Month 2

    Bill 2

Same day, next month Free month credited

A service credit is taken off this bill. Your bill preview should show month two as free.

  4. Month 3

    Bill 3

Same day, a month later Back to normal

Regular price again. By now you’ve passed two full billing cycles.

Five moments matter. Step 2 is the easiest one to get wrong: the order has to be finished on starlink.com in the same browser where the link was opened, not in a store, over the phone or on another device.

The last step matters for the person who shared the link, not for you. Their reward only comes once you’ve had two full monthly billing cycles on a high-speed plan, continuously, with Standby Mode not counting.

The six questions everyone asks

Will I really get the free month, or is it a trick?

It’s real. It’s written into Starlink’s own referral terms: one free month on your plan, taken off your second bill. The catch is the conditions. You have to be a new customer, order on starlink.com through a referral link, and keep a full-speed plan for two months.

See every condition

Why didn’t my first bill show it?

Because it isn’t meant to. You pay the first month in full. The credit is taken off your second monthly bill.

Does it work if I buy the kit at a store?

No. Starlink’s terms leave out kits from stores, resellers and private sales. Only a kit and plan bought on starlink.com through the link get the free month.

Store kits explained

Does it count if I had Starlink before, or at another address?

No. You must never have been a Starlink subscriber. Returning customers don’t qualify, whatever the address.

Returning customers

What if I cancel or switch to Standby early?

You can lose it. The credit comes off bill 2, and Standby doesn’t count as a full-speed plan. Keep your plan running through two full billing cycles.

Standby and cancelling

Is the free trial the same thing as the free month?

No. There’s no free-trial plan. The 30-day return window refunds you if you send the kit back. The free month is a credit on bill 2 for staying.

Compare the two

Your five-point check before you click Order

Tick each one. If you can’t tick one, the checker above explains what that means for you.

When the free month isn’t a reason to order

One free month is nice. It shouldn’t decide whether Starlink is right for you. If you’re not sure it will work where you live, the 30-day return window is your real safety net. If you might cancel within a couple of months, plan as if the free month won’t happen.

If money is tight right now, compare lower-cost internet options in your area first. A free month doesn’t change the cost of the months after it.
