Troubleshooting

Opened the link on one device, ordered on another?

This one isn’t always a dead end. Starlink support can check whether the referral reached your order.

Rules checked Against Starlink’s own help pages and terms. How we check

Short answer

A referral link tells starlink.com who sent you, in the browser where you open it. Switch phone, computer, browser or app before paying, and the order may arrive without the referral. Ask Starlink support to check. Next time, finish in one browser.

Why it happens

Starlink doesn’t publish how it remembers the link. Like most sites, it can only know what happened in the browser where the link was opened. If you opened it on your phone and paid on a laptop, the laptop never saw the link.

“The Referred Subscriber places an order for a Starlink Kit using the Unique Referral Link provided by the Referrer. No other referral mechanism shall qualify as an Eligible Referral.”
From Referral Program Terms, US (starlink.com legal document DOC-1882-84808-83). Read .

What you can still do

  1. Check your email for Starlink’s “free month confirmed” message. If it’s there, you’re fine.
  2. Preview bill 2 in your Starlink account. Month two should show as free.
  3. If neither shows it, contact support from your account. Say which day you opened the link and that you ordered on starlink.com. Ask whether the referral was attached to your order. What to include

Be ready for either answer

Starlink doesn’t describe any way to attach a referral after an order. Support may be able to help, or may not. Plan for both.

How to avoid it next time

Open the link on the device you’ll pay on. Finish the whole order in that browser, in one sitting. Don’t switch to the Starlink app halfway through.

Questions people ask

Does a private or incognito window break the referral?
Starlink doesn’t say how it tracks the link. If you open it in a private window and finish the order in that same window, you’ve used one session. If you closed it and came back later in a normal window, the link may not have carried over.
I clicked the link, left, and came back days later to order. Is that OK?
We can’t tell from Starlink’s pages how long the link is remembered. The safe habit is to open the link again right before you order and finish in that session.
Can I prove I used the link?
Keep the message or page where you got the link, and note the date you opened it. Support can look up your order. You can’t add the referral yourself.
